How to Promote Your Local Business

Last year, I decided that I wanted to invest in personal training. As a lifelong sedentary person, I realized that I didn't know how to start, so I went to the almighty Google machine. I typed in "personal trainers Orange County," looked at the top results, and examined the reviews. Before scheduling any consultations, I narrowed down the options based on their fitness philosophy (seen on their website) and the most highly rated. When searching for a local business, this approach and process isn't unique. In fact, 90% of consumers used the internet to find a local business in the last year. That's why, as marketers, our businesses have to show up when people are searching for local companies online. Below, let's review the top strategies to promote your business locally. → Download Now: SEO Starter Pack [Free Kit] How to Promote Your Business Locally Advertise with local audience targeting. Optimize or Advertise? Comparing Organic vs. Paid Social Media

They say,   "The best things in life are free."   Which I never thought was necessarily true. I mean some of the best things are free — love, sunshine, fireflies, and whatnot. But there are a lot of awesome things that cost money —   nunchucks ,   BMX bikes , DVDs of the movie   Kung Fu Panda 3 . Download Now: Free Marketing Plan Template [Get Your Copy] So the line is kind of muddled when it comes to establishing whether free stuff is better than things that come at a cost — and the case of social media marketing is no exception. The debate between organic vs. paid social media isn't exactly cut and dry. Both options have their strengths and weaknesses. Here, we'll get more perspective on the difference between both kinds of social media and some pros and cons that come with each. Organic vs. Paid Social Media You can gauge the main difference between organic and paid social media by their respective names. You post organic social media for free, generally to reach

How to Market Your Local Business' Grand Opening

During the last month or so, my husband and I have driven by this grand opening sign on our way to his parent's house about a dozen times. After a couple of weeks, we decided to look up what it was for. We found out a new restaurant was opening, and we were pretty excited to have a new place to try (sometimes it gets boring going to the same places!). Since we were looking forward to it, we told our families, and decided to give it a try for one of our weekly dinners. This is exactly the result you're looking for when you're marketing your grand opening. For local businesses, it can be hard to get customers through the door. As a marketer, the first step is to let them know you're there. Ultimately, your grand opening marketing should help your business build relationships and create buzz with your audience. Below, let's review where to and when you should market your grand opening. Download free resources for executing your best event yet. [Free Kit] Where to Mark

Limits to Spot Advertising

The advantages of spot advertising are undeniable. However, not all companies take advantage because of a number of limitations. Production To make an advertisement, a company needs a large scale production. Even if it only airs for a short while such as 10 or 15 seconds, it still requires a lot of effort. There is a need for a writer, actors, models, directors, rehearsing, renting locations, retakes, and a lot more. Even if you outsource a production company to finish the project, it can still present a lot of problems. Because of this, it can be very time-consuming and stressful. Cost and frequency Other than the hassle of the production process, not many companies can afford to air spot advertisements. It is not practical for a small business to put all their budget in a single ad. This reason is why all the ads you see on the television are mostly by national chains. Advertising is very expensive and buying spots on television and radio is a sure budget buster. If you are not sure

The 18 Best Advertisements & Ad Campaigns of All Time

I've always been a little leery of proclaiming anything "the best." I never declared anyone my best friend as a kid because I was afraid my other friends might assume I thought less of them. So it was a little difficult for me to come up with just one "best" advertisement of all time — which is why there are 18 in this post instead. What makes these some of the best ads of all time? Because of the  impact  they had on the growth of the brand, and because they manage to hit on some universal truth that allows us to remember these campaigns years after they first began. In fact, some of us might not have even been alive when these campaigns first aired. A Brief History of Advertising

Advertising is one of the oldest segments of business, save for currency and trade. Once products and services arose, so did the need to make them known. The oldest confirmed piece of advertising dates back to 3,000 B.C. Technically, it was a print ad from ancient Egypt promoting the capture and return of an escaped slave. Incidentally, the ad also mentioned the slave owner’s shop — a rug business — which inherently advertised his storefront, too. The slave was never caught, but the rug owner did discover a brand new method of bringing in traffic: advertising. Let’s fast-forward about 4,000 years. Here’s a brief look at the past five centuries of advertising: 1472: The first poster advertisement is placed on church doors in London. 1650: The first newspaper ad — a reward for 12 stolen horses — is published. (What’s with these reward-based advertisements?) 1704: The Boston News-Letter prompts its readers to place ads in its paper. 1870: The Powers style of ad copy is born. This style p

The Ultimate Guide to Advertising in 2021

What is Journey-based Advertising?

Why the Buyer’s Journey Matters We can’t do journey-based advertising unless we first understand the buyer’s journey itself. The buyer’s journey is a three-phase process your leads go through to (ideally) become a customer. Journey-based advertising is powerful because it adapts your advertising strategy to the buyer’s journey. You can map the awareness, consideration, and decision phases to paid advertising offers and ad copy — as well as the structure and strategy of your paid advertising campaigns. For example, offers and keywords related to case studies, demos, and coupons may fall flat for your buyer personas in the awareness stage but are compelling offers when they are in the decision phase. Buyer’s journey stages are also the basis for an ad account structure. You can create campaigns for each buyer’s journey stage and choose ad formats, bids, and more based on how much your buyer persona knows about their problem, the possible solutions, and your organization. Sure, it’s stil

The Definition of Advertising in Less Than 50 Words

Image
Consider for a minute that this green rainbow is an ad: McDonald's "Shambow" light installation, Chicago, St. Patrick's Day 2018 (Image via Adweek) And this "Ketchup" jersey is also an ad: Doritos' limited edition Ketchup streetwear line (Image via Adweek) Once easily defined in terms of medium, today's ads are designed to slip seamlessly into our lives without causing noticeable disruptions (whether or not they always succeed in this area is another story entirely). With advertisers working harder than ever to create unexpected (and undetected) ad experiences, a clear definition of  advertising  is more difficult than you might think to pin down. If you're here, I'm guessing you're looking for a succinct, simple definition of advertising. Maybe even -- and I'm reaching here -- in 50 words or less? I won't delay you further. What is Advertising? Advertising is a form of communication that attempts to influence the behavior of a
